"All
Together Now!" Capital Campaign
Currently the school
is housed in a building that was built in 1972 to accommodate
fourteen disabled students enrolled at the time and the twenty-two
disabled children on the waiting list. The building was built
so that the program could grow, however today we are unable
to accommodate all of the children interested in attending.
Due to space constraints we cannot serve any more students.
In the 2002-2003 school year we served nearly 300 students, 127 of them challenged.
Once our new building is complete we will be able to serve
nearly 450 students (keeping the same small class sizes and
student-teacher ratios).
As many of you
may already know, all of the disabled students receive therapy
services that are designed to meet their individual needs.
The majority of the therapy sessions are held in the current
therapy room. We offer occupational therapy (fine and gross
motor development), physical therapy and speech therapy. Often
times the therapy room is occupied simultaneously by three
therapists and three or more students. The therapists use
screens to minimize distractions because there are so many
people using the same small space.
The therapy room
also serves as a classroom two mornings a week. Therapy equipment
is stored in the corner of the room and is pulled out as needed.
Because the therapists share the room with a class the staff
are responsible for changing out equipment daily. This is
both inefficient and time consuming. Once the new building
is complete there will be 1,600 feet of dedicated therapy
space. This will allow for plenty of room for one on one therapy
between a student and a staff member.
With our new building
we will have meeting space and offices for conferences for
children's reviews and staffings. We will also have an office
for our school psychologist and nurse. (Currently we have
no place for these private meetings so they take place in
common areas or in borrowed offices that are not being used.)
Mr. Bal Swan, a
community leader/philanthropist and personal friend of President
Dwight Eisenhower donated the land, 4.6 acres, and built our
current building in 1972. Mr. Swan knew that our program would
need to grow with the neighborhood and he believed in our
mission. Today we are in the midst of a $3.7 million dollar
capital campaign. In fact, the City and County of Broomfield
has budgeted nearly $400,000 toward the construction of our
gym in the 2003 budget. To-date we have raised over $1.0 million.
Please help us to continue serving our community's most valuable
assets, the children. Join us in looking to the future, and
give to the All Together Now! Capital Campaign.
