Title: Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors
Supervises: Directors and Administrative Staff
Status: Full-time, exempt

Bal Swan Children’s Center seeks a new Executive Director to build on more than 50 years of leadership in early childhood education and inclusion. The Executive Director of Bal Swan Children’s Center provides leadership and oversight for the operation of the Center. The incumbent is responsible for the financial health of the Center, staffing the Center appropriately, and maintaining the values and culture that make Bal Swan Children’s Center the premier provider of early childhood education in the Broomfield area. In partnership with the board of directors, the Executive Director is charged with leading the planning and visioning for the future success of the Center built on a half century of excellence. 

Below are examples of the responsibilities of the Executive Director, not an exhaustive listing of all duties.


  • Serves as primary spokesperson for the Center, both internally and to external stakeholders
  • Stewards and cultivates the culture of inclusion among staff and families
  • Supports the board of directors and implements the vision and mission as set in collaboration with the board
  • Actively works with the board of directors in supporting their board governance role
  • Actively promotes the interests of the Center to local and state entities, including active participation in the Broomfield Early Childhood Council
  • Supervise Director of Education and Director of Development
  • Supervise therapy team
  • Supervise administrative staff, including facilities manager, operations manager, front office manager, accountant, and other contract staff
  • Convenes and facilitates leadership team meetings, building collaboration among departments


  • Responsible for administration of all human resources functions, including:
    • Payroll approval
    • Employee benefits
    • Conflict resolution
    • Approval of all hiring/termination decisions
  • Primary point of contact for vendors and contractors
  • Financial management of the Center:
    • Approve staff credit card expenditures
    • Manage banking and investment accounts
    • Ensure adequate, comprehensive insurance coverage
    • Annual audit
    • Financial aid 
  • Ensure Center resources are used appropriately and maintained
    • Capital improvements
    • Building maintenance
    • Playgrounds and landscaping
    • Office and classroom equipment
  • Ensure Center compliance with all regulations set out by the state of Colorado Department of Early Childhood
  • Ensure Center compliance with all regulations set out by the City and County of Broomfield Department of Health and Human Services
  • Ensure Center compliance with all relevant regulations set out by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

Fundraising and Development

  • Serves as chief solicitor for major gifts in concert with the Director of Development and board of directors
  • Cultivates and stewards relationships with key stakeholders, including foundations, local businesses, major donors, etc.
  • Creates annual fundraising plan in concert with the Director of Development
  • Supports Director of Development in identifying new prospects and funding opportunities
  • Supports and advises Director of Development in the production of special events, including the Bal Swan Ball and Golf Fore Kidz tournament
  • Supports and advises the Director of Development on areas of need within the Center to drive other development activities

Program Management

  • Support Director of Education in
    • supervising teaching and support staff
    • identifying new opportunities for innovation in curriculum delivery
    • implementing and enforcing policies and procedures
    • staff deployment, recruitment, evaluation and retention
  • Support therapy staff in 
    • billing and administrative efforts
    • providing professional development opportunities
    • encourage excellence in service delivery 


  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug tests
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in a management or supervisory role


  • A master’s degree in early childhood field
  • Experience leading personnel and/or constituents with diverse backgrounds and needs
  • Non-profit leadership experience or leadership experience at a corporation with a special focus
  • Demonstrated success in leadership through growth phases

Compensation Range: negotiable, based on qualifications and experience
