Family Events & Social Connections
Whenever a family is isolated from family or community, the children are more at risk. Many Bal Swan parents naturally develop friendships with other parents they meet at Bal Swan, but others may need help establishing those social connections. Building trusting relationships with all families and helping isolated families connect with other parents strengthens parenting skills and protects our children.
Bal Swan is more like a parent community than a child care. This nurturing environment creates a life-long connection. It is not uncommon that our alumni parents and children continue attending our events years and even decades after their graduation.
The following is a list of our community gatherings that happen every year at Bal Swan. Be sure to check the calendar for specific dates and other activities.
Ice Cream Social: This September event kicks off the school year at Bal Swan. The entire school shares free ice-cream at Northmoor Park across the parking lot from Bal Swan. New families meet current families and alumni families attend to share stories. The highlight of the event is the flying dog show. Every year Bal Swan invites a group that trains Frisbee show dogs. The children just love seeing the dogs chase down and jump for the flying discs.
Bal Swan Pint-Size Ball: Usually in November, Bal Swan opens its doors on a weekend to a transformed school with a dance room, decorations, children’s party food, and activities. The event always has a theme so it is fun to see parents and their children dressed in matching outfits dancing to the Macarena…. Hey Macarenaaaaa.
Bal Swan Ball: In early March, the Bal Swan Ball is one of the most anticipated events in the Broomfield community. This event started in 1963 and is now attended each year by more than 600 Bal Swan family members. It is held at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield and consists of a silent and live auction, dinner, live music, dancing, and non-cash gambling. Attendees wear anything from a tuxedo or ball gown to a themed costume which makes for an interesting event. Imagine sitting next to someone dressed like Eddie Van Halen. The Ball’s themes have ranged from “Satin and Spurs”, “Vega Baby”, to the decade themes we are using until our 50th anniversary in 2014. Proceeds from the Bal Swan Ball support Bal Swan’s therapy services and preschool programming.
Bal Swan Family Picnic: At the end of the school year in May, we break out the grills and cook hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie alternatives for all the Bal Swan Families. This is another event at Northmoor Park that brings the Bal Swan family together.
Bal Swan Golf-4-Kidz: This is the school’s annual golf tournament which is held each year in June. The latest tournament was an overwhelming success with 242 participants. The Broadlands Golf Course donates the use of the course to us for one full day. This generous gift enables us to retain nearly all of the proceeds from the event. We also have been fortunate to have Hunter Douglas and its vendors return year after year to support the event. Hunter Douglas Window Fashions, with the active support of its employees, has been the title sponsor of the event for more than 20 years.
Volunteering: Bal Swan has a healthy volunteer network that our parents use to meet other families and to give back. All the above events are planned and supported by our parents. So if anything above is of interest, just contact the front office and we will connect you to the right person.
